On February 16, 2023, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education acted to acknowledge the institutional closure of Cazenovia College effective June 30, 2023. Accreditation ceased effective September 1, 2023. As of September 2, 2023, Cazenovia College is no longer accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education www.msche.org. To note that the institution will close by June 30, 2023. To request an updated teach-out plan with teach-out agreements, due April 14, 2023, with (1) a comprehensive and implementable timeline, including critical milestones; (2) remaining signed copies of teach-out agreements, including any documentation supporting the agreements; (3) the status of the implementation of the teach-out plan and teach-out agreements; (4) evidence that required notifications to all relevant stakeholders have taken place; (5) evidence of the issuance of transcripts for any students wishing to transfer to another institution; (6) evidence that the institution has notified students of any additional charges; (7) evidence that student records have been transferred to the final repository; (8) evidence that communications regarding student records has occurred; and (9) evidence of external approvals, including the New York State Education Department and the United States Department of Education. To note that the report provided limited responses to requested information and did not present evidence and analysis in a manner conducive to Commission review. To require resubmission of the supplemental information report by January 3, 2023, providing further evidence of documented financial resources, funding base, and plans for financial development adequate to support its educational purposes and programs and to ensure financial stability (Standard VI and Requirement of Affiliation 11). To acknowledge receipt of the institution's notification of its plans to close. To require that the institution submit a substantive change request for Institutional Closure by January 3, 2023 as required by the Commission's Substantive Change Policy and Procedures and Substantive Change Guidelines. To note that failure to submit the substantive change request and the teach-out plan and agreements will result in further action by the Commission. To remind the institution of its obligation to make freely available to the Commission accurate, fair, and complete information on all aspects of the institution and its operations (Requirement of Affiliation 14). To require immediate notification to the Commission of any changes to the status of the institution. To note that the On-Site Evaluation Visit will not occur. To direct a prompt Commission liaison guidance visit to discuss Commission expectations.
