  • July 1, 2020
    Staff acted on behalf of the Commission to request a supplemental information report due October 1, 2020, addressing recent action by the Commission on Accreditation of the Association for Theological Schools (COA-ATS) which may have implications for current and future compliance with Standard III (Design and Delivery of the Student Learning Experience), Standard IV (Support of the Student Experience), Standard V (Educational Effectiveness Assessment), and Requirement of Affiliation 6.
  • April 16, 2020
    To acknowledge receipt of formal written notice from the institution in response to the Commission’s request of March 9, 2020. To temporarily waive Substantive Change Policy and Procedures and allow the use of distance education to accommodate students impacted by coronavirus (COVID-19) interruptions, in accordance with United States Department of Education (USDE) guidelines published March 5, 2020. Continued use of distance education beyond the limitations of USDE guidelines will require substantive change approval in accordance with Substantive Change Policy and Procedures. This flexibility is not available for clock-hour courses that lead to licensure if the licensing body will not accept distance learning courses or hours or give credit for them toward the number of hours a student must complete. The next evaluation visit is scheduled for 2020-2021.

    To acknowledge receipt of documentation of approval from the Pennsylvania Department of Education and to affirm inclusion of the merger with The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia to become United Lutheran Seminary within the scope of the institution's accreditation. To note the visit by the Commission's representative and to affirm inclusion of the additional location at 7301 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19119 within the scope of the institution's accreditation.

    To accept the supplemental information report. To request that, beginning in 2019 and in conjunction with each Annual Institutional Update prior to the Self-Study Evaluation visit in 2020-2021, the institution provide further evidence (1) that faculty and/or other appropriate professionals are regularly and equitably reviewed and provided with opportunities, resources and support for professional growth and innovation (Standard III), (2) that student learning experiences are designed, delivered and assessed by appropriately credentialed professionals, sufficient in number, who are effective and rigorous in their teaching (Standard III), (3) of coherent student learning experiences appropriate to the credential levels offered (Standard III), and (4) of sufficient learning opportunities and resources to support students’ academic progress (Standards III and IV). The next evaluation visit is scheduled for 2020-2021.

    To acknowledge receipt of the complex substantive change request and, effective July 1, 2017, to include provisionally, the merger with The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia to become United Lutheran Seminary, within the scope of the institution's accreditation, pending receipt of all necessary approvals and a site visit within six months of the effective date of the merger. To approve the teach-out plan and to note the transfer of The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia’s student records, programs, and services to Lutheran Theological Seminary Gettysburg. To include provisionally, Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, 7301 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19119 as an additional location, pending a site visit within six months of the commencement of operations. Additionally to include the Doctor’s – Research/Scholarship (Ph.D.) within the scope of the institution’s accreditation. To request a progress report, due December 1, 2017, providing an updated status of the merged institutions. The next evaluation visit is scheduled for 2020-2021.

    To acknowledge receipt of the substantive change request and to include the online Master of Divinity degree within the scope of the institution's accreditation. To remind the institution of the Commission’s request of March 2, 2015 regarding the Periodic Review Report due June 1, 2016.

    To accept the progress report. To request that the Periodic Review Report, due June 1, 2016, provide further evidence of the use of assessment results to improve teaching and learning (Standard 14).
