MSCHE Submits Comments to the United States Department of Education Regarding Higher Education Rulemaking

President Heather F. Perfetti submitted a letter on behalf of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) in response to the request for information by the United States Department of Education (Department) regarding higher education rulemaking. “The composition of the negotiated rulemaking committees will be critical to achieving successful negotiations and establishing regulations that support the goals and needs of constituent groups,” stated President Perfetti in the letter. “The involvement of institutional accreditors, representatives of state agencies, and diverse types of institutions previously referenced will be essential, especially given the critical role played by accrediting agencies and state authorizers in the areas noted.”

The Department will finalize the issues to be addressed through rulemaking and solicit nominations for non-federal negotiators who can serve on the negotiated rulemaking committee(s), which will convene in fall 2023.
