MSCHE President Dr. Heather Perfetti Launches SSI 2022 with Remarks
Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) President Dr. Heather F. Perfetti launched the 2022 Self-Study Institute (SSI) with remarks for the 69 institutions beginning the multi-week training. Held virtually over five weeks from October 6 through November 10, SSI combines plenary sessions with MSCHE staff and co-facilitators from member institutions with small group interactions where institutional representatives will interact directly with the MSCHE Vice President liaisons and co-facilitators.
Dr. Perfetti relayed to participants: “This is a process that allows your institution to evaluate itself against its mission, goals, and priorities. It is somewhat of a forced opportunity to pause, take inventory, and celebrate your institution’s successes while preparing for a future through improvement initiatives that will make your institution the strongest that it can be.”
During SSI, institutions work on developing their self-study designs that ultimately leads to granting or reaffirmation of accreditation. Institutions participating in SSI 2022 will be evaluated in 2024-2025 and must provide evidence and document compliance with the Commission’s Standards for Accreditation and Requirements of Affiliation, policies and procedures, and federal compliance requirements.
The SSI planning committee included Lead Vice President for Institutional Field Relations Dr. Idna Corbett, Vice Presidents for Institutional Field Relations Dr. Melissa Hardin, Dr. Robert Bonfiglio, and Dr. Anne Wahl; Senior Director for Communications and Events Mr. Brian Kirschner; Director for Events Ms. Victoria Clark; Events Technology Assistant Ms. Rebecca DeHaven; and Accreditation Services Coordinator Ms. Alicia Vassallo. Additional support for the event was provided by the entire Institutional Field Relations Unit as well as others throughout the MSCHE organization.
Experienced co-facilitators supplement the training conducted by the Vice Presidents. “We have recruited a number of facilitators who will provide advice based on their experiences during self-study as well,” Dr. Perfetti said. “I am tremendously appreciative for our facilitators from institutions who will be participating in this Self-Study Institute.”
Dr. Perfetti concluded her remarks stating, “as president, I look forward to working with you and your institutions as we continue to leverage the value of peer review, celebrate the work of our institutions, improve the student experience, and reiterate the many benefits of higher education.”
