Three Commissioners to Join MSCHE for First Terms in 2022
The Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) announces the election of three new Commissioners to first terms beginning January 1, 2022, through December 31, 2024. Chris L. Kenny, Esq., Chief Executive Officer, Delaware Supermarkets Inc.; John P. Schiavone, CPA, Partner, Lumsden & McCormick, LLP; and George J. Sullivan, Head of Enterprise Services (Federal), Qualtrics will join the Commission as public representatives. The elected Commissioners will be going through an onboarding process over the next few months before beginning their terms.
Chris L. Kenny, Esq.
Chief Executive Officer, Delaware Supermarkets Inc.
Mr. Chris L Kenny, Esq., is a Delaware business leader and philanthropist with a mission to provide his community with engaging, action-oriented thought leadership on the greatest issues affecting the state. Mr. Kenny is the CEO of his multigenerational family business Delaware Supermarkets Inc., owning and operating six ShopRite supermarkets that generate $300 million in annual revenue, employs over 1,000 associates, and currently celebrating their 25th year in business. As current and former board member for over a dozen non-profits, Mr. Kenny offers unique insights into business, entrepreneurship, the food industry, Delaware issues, and the state’s community. Currently, Mr. Kenny is a Board Leadership Fellow within the National Association of Corporate Directors, and he is a former member of the Goodwill of Delaware & Delaware County Board of Directors and the Valley Forge Military Academy Board of Trustees. Mr. Kenny is licensed to practice law in Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. In 2017, he received an honorary doctorate degree in Business Administration from Goldey-Beacom College. Currently, Mr. Kenny is the President of the St. Thomas More Society of the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington, and founder and inaugural chair of the Delaware Society, an affinity club with the Union League of Philadelphia. Mr. Kenny lives in Wilmington, Delaware.
John P. Schiavone, CPA
Partner, Lumsden & McCormick, LLP
Mr. John P. Schiavone serves as the Lumsden & McCormick’s managing partner and remains dedicated to active client service. His responsibilities include shared management and oversight of the firm’s nonprofit and government services practices. Mr. Schiavone has extensive knowledge in financial accounting and has led the firm in assisting entities to adopt various Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) financial reporting standards. Mr. Schiavone has over 35 years of experience serving commercial entities such as financial institutions, governmental entities, and nonprofit organizations including educational institutions, charitable organizations, and private foundations. Mr. Schiavone’s client responsibilities include supervision of numerous services in the areas of external and internal auditing, consulting, tax compliance, cost reporting, and Government Auditing Standards applications. A graduate of Duquesne University with a B.S. in Accounting, Mr. Schiavone is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants where he sits on the Government Accounting and Auditing Committee, and the local chapter of the National Association of College and University Business Officers. In addition, he was engaged with the community through his work as a past Board Member of the Erie Community College Foundation, past Chairman of the Erie County Audit Committee, and past Treasurer of the Niagara USA Regional Chamber, among others.
George J. Sullivan
Head of Enterprise Services (Federal), Qualtrics
Mr. George J. Sullivan is Head of Enterprise Services (Federal) at Qualtrics, where he and his team enable enterprise clients and government organizations to leverage technology to improve the experiences of customers, citizens, and employees. Prior to joining Qualtrics, Mr. Sullivan served as a Foreign Service Officer at the U.S. Department of State. His overseas assignments included Pakistan, Egypt, Jordan, and Brazil. In Washington, D.C., Mr. Sullivan worked in the Bureaus of Near Eastern Affairs and Legislative Affairs. His language training includes Arabic and Portuguese. Mr. Sullivan holds an M.P.A. from the George Washington University’s Trachtenberg School, and a B.A. in Economics from the SUNY College at Geneseo. A former firefighter/EMT, Mr. Sullivan is passionate about servant leadership, crisis management, and public sector service delivery. He lives in Washington, D.C. where he eagerly awaits an eventual World Series between the Yankees and the Nationals.
