A delegation from Moldova visited the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) on Friday, Nov. 1, 2019, to learn more about accreditation in the United States. The group of eight education officials from different institutions were participating in a program titled Higher Education in the United States through the U.S. Department of State and their partner Citizen Diplomacy International. The Moldovan visitors are part of the State Department’s International Visitors Leadership Program.

MSCHE staff discussed the holistic nature of accreditation in the U.S. in addition to MSCHE accreditation processes, its standards and requirements of affiliation, and the peer evaluation process. After opening remarks from Dr. President-Elect Dr. Heather F. Perfetti and President Dr. Elizabeth H. Sibolski, featured presenters Vice President Dr. Ellie Fogarty and Senior Director for Accreditation Services Ms. Erin Mattson led the group through each topic. The delegation presented a variety of insightful questions that ranged from the application of standards to different institutions and the integrity of the peer review process.

The delegates had made previous stops at George Mason University, Georgetown University, Drexel University, and University of Pennsylvania. After enjoying some sightseeing in Philadelphia, the group was departing for Indianapolis to visit more higher education institutions.

In addition to its U.S.-based institutions, MSCHE accredits institutions in British Virgin Islands, Canada, Chile, Egypt, France, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lebanon, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, and United Kingdom.
