This workshop will help assessment newcomers plan and begin the student learning assessment process by introducing them to the following:
- Explaining the four steps of the teaching-learning-assessment cycle
- Identifying the purposes and intended audiences for your assessment results
- Developing clear statements of expected learning outcomes for your students
- Identifying sources of evidence of student achievement of those learning outcomes
- Developing simple but effective tools to assess student learning
- Explaining MSCHE's expectations for assessment
This workshop is fast-paced and will not address any of these topics in depth. Also, it will not address fostering a culture of assessment, "rebooting" stalled assessment efforts, or using assessment results. These topics are addressed in other workshops offered by MSCHE throughout the year, including the assessment institute that immediately follows this workshop (see Events Calendar - "Meeting Middle States Expectations for Student Learning Assessment" - September 16-17, 2010).
