About the Workshop
This workshop is designed for chairs and evaluators who have been invited to serve on evaluation teams in the fall (2010) and spring (2011). Others might be invited to attend at the Commission's discretion.
The focus of discussion in these workshops will be the revised standards in Characteristics of Excellence in Higher Education (2009) and the on-site evaluation processes. Chairs and evaluators are expected to attend the workshops to which they are invited if they are new to the process or have not participated in one of these workshops during the past three years.
The workshops are conducted using a blending of formats, which may include individual and panel presentation, small group discussion, case studies, and question and answer periods. The workshops are led by Commission staff and experienced chairs and evaluators.

Advance Reading Materials
Prior to the workshop, each participant will receive a set of publications, sample case studies, and other materials in order to prepare for the discussions at the workshops. Participants are expected to be conversant with:
When reading the case studies, evaluators give particular attention to the Fundamental Elements provided in Characteristics (2009) for each of the 14 accreditation standards. Participants should be prepared to answer these broad questions:
-- What is your initial impression of this institution's compliance with Standard 1 (Mission and Goals)? Does it appear to be in compliance, does it appear not to be in compliance, or is there insufficient information in the self study to make this determination? -- What additional materials would you like to review regarding Standard 1 once you arrive for the team visit? Why? -- With whom would you like to meet on campus regarding Standard 1? Why? -- What questions would you like to ask in your meetings? Why? --If you do not have time to meet with everyone you’ve identified, which meetings would be most important and should get scheduling priority?
